CALL FOR A COMPREHENSIVE VALUATION OF ONCOLOGY

The number of patients and costs are growing, and the National Health Fund tariff rates do not match the high requirements of the Ministry of Health regarding the standards of procedure implementation. Representatives of the Polish Oncological Society draw attention to this inequality.

PTO representatives and the authors of the report: "Analysis of the costs of selected oncology settlement products in Poland - recommendations regarding tariffs" appeal to the ministry and the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System to start pricing oncology comprehensively. As they say, only then will it be possible to obtain reliable results, which will also translate into an improvement in the situation of patients. In an interview for newsrm.tv, Adam Maciejczyk, director of the Lower Silesian Oncology Center in Wrocław and at the same time president of the National Association of Public Oncology Centers and Institutes, cites as an example the valuation of hospitalization for teleradiotherapy, which was equalized by the National Health Fund to the rate of accommodating a patient in a hostel. Prof. Ph.D. Jacek Fijuth, president of the Polish Oncological Society, emphasizes that hospitalization is the main problem in the functioning of oncology centers. He adds: - Costs are increasing. The sick require more intensive and more expensive care when the situation does not allow it.

According to the data included in the oncological needs maps of the Ministry of Health, the incidence of malignant tumors in Poland will increase by approximately 15%. in 2020 and 28 percent in 2025 compared to 2014. Out of approx. 200 thousand of people who develop cancer, more than half will require radiotherapy.
