INSTALLATION OF SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT IN THE RADIOTHERAPY CENTER IN ZGORZELEC

Finishing works on the building are underway, and the installation of accelerators has also begun in the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center under construction at the Multi-Specialty Hospital in Zgorzelec.

The installation of two state-of-the-art Elekta accelerators began in the first week of August and will last until October. Accelerators (also called linear accelerators) are devices in which patients are directly subjected to ionizing radiation therapy. They will be located in radiation-protected bunkers that are already ready. Currently, installation works are still underway, including ventilation and cooling of this key part of the building. Ultimately, the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center will be equipped with three accelerators and a modern computed tomography scanner.

The recruitment of a medical team that will work at the Zgorzelec center has also begun. The staff will include radiation oncologists, medical physicists, electroradiotherapy technicians and nurses. The first training sessions will begin in September.

The launch of the Radiotherapy Center in Zgorzelec is of great importance for patients from Zgorzelec, Bogatynia, Zawidów, Nowogrodziec, Węgliniec, who this year will be able to undergo therapy within a short distance of their place of residence.
