POSSIBLE DIFFICULTIES IN TELEPHONE CONTACTS

The Amethyst Radiotherapy Center in Krakow is implementing an electronic medical document circulation system. From December 1, the work of the Radiotherapy Clinic is covered by the new system. In the next stage, processes in the Radiotherapy Department will be computerized.

The ongoing implementation requires a lot of work from the entire team, which makes every effort to ensure that the ongoing process does not affect patient service. However, there may be situations when telephone contact will be slightly difficult, which will include, among others: with the extension of the queue waiting for a telephone connection. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

INSTALLATION OF SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT IN THE RADIOTHERAPY CENTER IN ZGORZELEC

Finishing works on the building are underway, and the installation of accelerators has also begun in the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center under construction at the Multi-Specialty Hospital in Zgorzelec.

The installation of two state-of-the-art Elekta accelerators began in the first week of August and will last until October. Accelerators (also called linear accelerators) are devices in which patients are directly subjected to ionizing radiation therapy. They will be located in radiation-protected bunkers that are already ready. Currently, installation works are still underway, including ventilation and cooling of this key part of the building. Ultimately, the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center will be equipped with three accelerators and a modern computed tomography scanner.

The recruitment of a medical team that will work at the Zgorzelec center has also begun. The staff will include radiation oncologists, medical physicists, electroradiotherapy technicians and nurses. The first training sessions will begin in September.

The launch of the Radiotherapy Center in Zgorzelec is of great importance for patients from Zgorzelec, Bogatynia, Zawidów, Nowogrodziec, Węgliniec, who this year will be able to undergo therapy within a short distance of their place of residence. Thanks to this, the Multispecialty Hospital in Zgorzelec will provide comprehensive, full-profile oncological treatment, and patients will be treated in one place.

Construction works and installation of specialized equipment in Krakow are entering the final phase. On Monday, October 21, the installation of two Philips and Siemens computed tomography scanners began, which are part of the preparation of the radiotherapy treatment plan. The installation of three Synergy accelerators from Elekta is more advanced. Work here began in August, and calibration of these key devices for radiotherapy is currently underway.

The brachytherapy device has already arrived in Krakow. In the Amethyst Center, next to the teleradiotherapy laboratory, there will also be a brachytherapy laboratory (treatment using a radiation source in direct contact with the tumor).

The installation of specialized equipment in Krakow is carried out in parallel with construction works. The final finishing works are in progress, painting the walls, laying ceramic tiles and carpets. Outside the building there is a ventilated façade made of Euronit boards and a glass facade.

AMETHYST RADIOTHERAPY – BEAT CANCER

Providing the best treatment to each patient - this is the most important challenge for the entire team of the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center - assures Barbara Werchowiecka-Rusinek in an interview starting a special supplement to Gazeta Wyborcza. In a facility cooperating directly with the Hospital. Over the course of five years, 12 patients were treated by L. Rydygier, and doctors provided 50 treatments. advice. Sometimes you wait for them in the waiting room, because they are with a patient, because they have a consultation... But once they welcome you, they patiently explain, listen carefully, and encourage you to ask questions.

Today, the precision and effectiveness of radiotherapy can be comparable to surgery. Marcin Hetnał, M.D., emphasizes that modern oncological therapies use individual solutions, closely tailored to the person's disease history. Doctors choose the best path for him based on knowledge and medical guidelines, clinical trials and publications. After analyzing all solutions, they recommend the most effective treatment method to the patient.

Krzysztof Czaja, head of the physics laboratory at the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center, explained in an interview the importance of procedures for quality control of therapeutic equipment and mutual control of activities performed by people participating in the treatment process. Double control of the treatment process at every stage of therapy and mutual checking of work radically minimize the risk of error. Patient safety is paramount.

MODERN PROSTATE CANCER TREATMENT

A GUIDE TO BRACHYTHERAPY

A specialized publication on brachytherapy was published by the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center. The brachytherapy guide is a compendium of knowledge about this oncological treatment technique. Provides general issues and detailed information on the treatment of breast, bronchial and tracheal, prostate, uterine, head and neck cancers, esophageal cancer and superficial treatment of skin cancers.

The aim of the publication is to comprehensively explain the course of treatment to patients and make it easier for them to undertake the difficulties of therapy.

Brachytherapy is one of the techniques of cancer radiotherapy. This is a treatment using a radiation source placed in direct contact with the tumor. This often requires the installation of special applicators, and depending on the location of the disease, brachytherapy may have very different course.

Brachytherapy has been used at the Amethyst Radiotherapy Center since June 2014. In 2017, 350 brachytherapy treatments were performed, which is used in 14 percent of patients at the Krakow facility.
